Announced at the 2011 Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, the new Collings 290 DC S Model (Dual Cutaway, Single pickup) builds on Collings' popular 290 model by offering a single P-90, wraptail bridge, Dual Cut guitar that is, essentially, an homage to the original Workingman's Rock-n-Roll guitars that came out of Michigan in the mid 50's.
Slab bodied Honduran Mahogany with beautifully cut and sanded comfort contours for thigh and belly, long tenon neck joint with Mahogany/Rosewood neck/fingerboard complement, Lollar Dogear P-90, impeccable construction.
A phenomenal model that should be very high on the wish list of any guitarist who values simplicity and phenomenal tone. A very girthy, ballsy instrument built to satisfy those who live for Rock and Blues.
Fat Sound's Take
What ingredients come together to create an iconic Rock-n-Roll guitar? If you base your recipe on such greats as the Fender Esquire and the Gibson Les Paul Junior you'd place simplicity at the top of the list. A slab of great wood shaped with timeless beauty, minimal electronics lending girth and growl, a sweetly carved and played-in feeling neck and exceptional balance and comfort.
Taking a page from the Book of Greats, Collings introduces their most bare bones, yet possibly most impressive electric model to date.......if you're looking for an ultimate Classic Rock and Blues guitar that is.
The 290 DC S is The Definitive, archetype Rock-n-Roll guitar in every respect. A single, dogear P-90 courtesy of Jason Lollar, gorgeously massaged Mahogany from Honduras, the flawless neck carve and overall fit and finish for which Collings is legendary all complemented by a simple yet effective and toneful wraparound bridge.
Fat Sound's staff consists of players who are more of the ham-fisted, big string guage, extra heavy plectrum, agro types who like a guitar with punch, bark and meanness, a moody instrument that likes to fight back but that also has a willingness to purr sweetly when coaxed......no feather finger players here. For us, the Collings 290 DC S is about as good as it gets.
Highly Recommended!

Customer Comment
"Stu,
The DCS arrived safe and sound today! It was warm out today so I was able to immediately treat myself to this gem! She’s everything that I have come to expect from Collings; pristine workmanship, finish, design and playability. And hey, she sound spankin goods! This guitar epitomizes rock and roll guitar, fat P90 tone that with a roll of the volume can turn into a jangle fest. These guy’s do it right and seem to do it in a very consistent way.
You were correct when you compared the tone to my son’s [MotorAve] Lemans; very , very close. We have 2 completely different amps, so it is hard to make a direct comparison.
As usual Stu, great doing business with you............your customer service is second to none!
