BOSS Effects & Tuners
"I clearly remember really beginning my effects journey via BOSS effects while in college in the mid-80's. At that time there were no "boutique" effects, no guitarist was yet familiar with the phrase "True Bypass" and BOSS was considered the best on the market. I had owned the usual MXR and Electro-Harmonix pedals starting in the late 70's, but BOSS represented a whole new level of variety and, in many cases, accessibility. I'd save up my money earned waiting tables and about once a month I'd buy a new BOSS effect........many times just to see what the heck it did! I spent hours poring over their catalog learning about Chorus, Flange, Delay, Phasing........"
-Stu Carter, owner Fat Sound Guitars
With an enormous selection of well-made, reliable and reasonably priced effect pedals in their lineup, there weren't many effects a player could want that BOSS didn't do and do well. Then, as today, many touring professional guitarists use BOSS effects to help shape their sound. Several of BOSS' discontinued models have become highly sought after, desirable and downright expensive.
Through a careful process of evolution, BOSS has consistently honed their lineup to bring better and better revisions of their pedals to the market over the last 20 years. They've also introduced some fantastic new pedals over the past 5 years such as their Roland Space Echo style RE-20 pedal which is one of my favorite delays currently available.
While still beautifully built and great sounding, BOSS now represents the lower end of effects at Fat Sound Guitars. They are the bargain brand that offers outstanding value for the money and should, at the very least, be considered as the next logical step up from typical multi-effect units, but in many cases will be right at home amongst other, more expensive, boutique brands.
BOSS' TU-2 pedal tuner and TU-15 tuners also represent two of the best instrument tuners on the market, not just in terms of price, but also accuracy. I still use the TU-15's predecessor, the TU-12 which I purchased new in 1987. I've tried newer and more expensive offerings, but the TU-12 is the one I have always returned to.
While not carrying quite the caché of American Made, Hand-Wired, "Boutique" brands, we at Fat Sound still feel very confident in highly recommending BOSS effects for most applications.
BOSS is the only brand we carry in this price range because, in our opinion, this is the only brand worth considering in the sub-boutique market. Our confidence in BOSS products is reflected in our Free Fat Sound Extended Coverage Program*
*Extended Coverage Program - If your BOSS pedal should fail for any reason that would be covered under the standard BOSS 5 Year Warranty.
