Heavy Electronics
Fat Sound Welcomes Sayer Payne and his Fantastic Heavy Electronics Effects!
Heavy Electronics was created by Sayer Payne in 2007.
"After 3 years working and managing guitar stores, I saw the repeated shortfalls in pedal quality in terms of build and tone. In contrast, the few pedals that worked and sounded great were either vintage favorites or ultra high-end boutique pedals both of them carrying price tags one might expect to be hanging on a guitar. Heavy Electronics is born out of a desire for honesty in tone, construction, aesthetic, and price. Heavy Electronics makes road-ready effects pedals made with the finest components teamed with superior design. All of the pedals feature a "single point" circuit board mouting design that eliminates multiple pressure points on the PCB. All of the signal pots in the pedals are 24mm full sized pots; Jacks are always metal Neutriks; finish is powdercoated; Toggle switches are metal and are located to avoid impact. In fact, all electromechanical pieces and connectors are metal (except the 9V Jack where metal jacks simply must not be used). However, these aspects are not considered luxuries by Heavy Electronics but rather as mandatory features. High quality is a license to flourish as a company that makes its product right, NOT a license to hold guitarist's tone ransom at an unfair price compared to cost of production. I make guitar pedals for musicians, and I play every pedal that ships to eliminate any compromises. It is for this reason specifically, that Heavy Electronics offers a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defect. All pedals are hand-made in Minneapolis. This isn't just about pedals. It's about your art."

A set it and forget it distortion rock box. The Hwy-77 is designed to simply feed thick and meaty IC distortion into your amp. Simple in function, Level and Gain controls are sensitive and accentuate playing style. No "die-off" as gain is decreased. Rather, lower level gain tone is open and warm. Decadent response to humbuckers and plenty of punch for single coils. Luxurious headroom to aid in recording and driving other pedals and amps. Voiced openly with fantastic response to bass.
Voice knob creates a low-end off with thick and massive low end that slowly rolls back off and reveals screaming highs and mids.
Sounds even better coming off a wall of 4x12s.

Ascend

From Heavy Electronics' Sayer Payne
The Heavy Electronics Ascend is a refined one-knob clean boost. Discrete analog design allows this exquisite boost to be balanced and true. Wonderfully transparent and clear, yet powerful. Drives reverb tanks beautifully with its strong and concise low end. At the extreme, the Ascend boost can even be used to drive tube amplifiers into distortion, allowing the pedal (and your guitar) to speak through the voice of the amp in a new way. Frequencies seem to melt into one another rather than stand apart. The Ascend's tone function switch inserts a simple EQ which can be swept via an internal trimpot. Because boosts often end up at the front of the signal chain, the Ascend incorporates a J-FET buffer circuit on the input signal. This guarantees better impedance reaction and long cable performance. After all, the Ascend was made for big stages.

Descend

From Heavy Electronics' Sayer Payne
Simple and precise volume reduction with no muddy tone! Put your amp to work and use the Descend as a clean channel in a box. Stunningly useful in live performance. All too often, guitarists find themselves unable to drive their amps into distortion and rely solely on pedals for distortion while limiting the amp as a clean(er) channel. The Descend was made to reverse this catastrophe and inspire single-channel amps to get cranked up where they belong. 6-way rotary switch gives the user a consistent and calculated volume drop. The Filter section also ensures that the volume drop will not diminish treble performance. Filter switch can be disengaged for more traditional volume drop that still leaves hands free for playing. Even the filter itself is fully adjustable via an internal trim-pot. Perfect for any guitarist who believes that some parts should be quieter than others?

Lo-Fi revolution in a box. Radio Havana breaks tonal conformity and pronounces a tone reminiscent of a small transistor radio. Tinny with washed frequencies, and very responsive to pickup choices and string manipulation. The center "disorder" knob can be used by willing hands to dial in any amount of clipping decay desired, exposing a characteristic static appeal. This discrete engineered pedal loves to find the odd frequencies and push them to the forefront (especially at higher gain). Perfect for breakdowns and artistic expressions of decay. Exciting applications for less traditional instruments and perfect for that scratchy-throated bass tone. An official cult-classic in the making.

Grind Fuzz

From Heavy Electronics' Sayer Payne
Finally, a fuzz that maintains note definition. This discrete fuzz/overdrive hybrid creates a massive result that boasts plenty of fuzz and sustain but allows tighter definition of chords and arpeggios. Thundering fuzz drive at full gain and warm sweet nuances at low gain. Especially transparent and fair-handed to guitars and excellent impedence response with Wahs.
"Swell" function adds high-end gain and harmonics and becomes dynamic-compressive at high gain. At full gain this effect can often sound like a slowly moving EQ (dark to bright) triggered each time you strike the strings. Absolutely superb for slow bends.
Side-adjust voltage pot can be adjusted with a pick to drop voltage and sag the entire circuit itself. In subtle use it can be used to lighlty compress the treble side of the fuzz. In extreme the pedal can become almost gated and unpredictable.
Devistating fuzz, note clarity intact, enjoy

Saturn

From Heavy Electronics' Sayer Payne
The Saturn is the electronic gateway to deep-space guitar modulation. Ultra-wide frequency band (FREQ) allows for all kinds of modulation reactions. Modulated tone is balanced with a full wet/dry mix control (MIX). Both the clean and the modulated signals are J-FET buffered. This mix is then passed through an overdrive section (DRIVE) that magnifies the impact of the modulation and allows the total signal to rise above unity if desired. We've also included an expression jack to control frequency. Rather than disable the Frequency knob all together when using the expression pedal, we retained functionality by allowing it to set the top limit of the modulation. This means that the top frequency can be pre-tuned and then the user can wash through the frequencies, ending at the exact frequency desired every time. Crank the knob and you've got the full sweep in the expression pedal. Bypass shunts any carrier bleed, and the pedal is DEAD QUIET in bypass, unlike other modulators. Subtle high modulation fakes steady harmonics, low jagged modulation drives like fuzz tone gone evil. Everything in between just floats in space.
