Fulltone

Fulltone Custom Effects 4th dealer having picked up the line in 1994

Turned on to the original, hand-painted Deja'Vibe pedal in 1994, Fat Sound Guitars became one of the very first shops to carry the line that began the boutique effects pedal movement. No guitarist had ever heard of "True-Bypass" until Fulltone came along. We knew that pedals loaded down our signal which is why we used 18K pickups in front of late 60's Marshalls; to push through the Uni-Vibe, Echoplex and Crybaby Wah pedals! My pedal collection still contains several early Fulltone pedals including two hand-painted Deja's and a brushed, plain metal Full-Drive with Dymo Labels. Since 1991 many great boutique pedal manufacturers have come along, but Mike Fuller really started the craze and opened the door for all who came after him.

Fulltone was started in 1991 by Michael Fuller, a Session Guitarist, Composer, Performer, Electronic Tinkerer featured in Guitar Player Magazine (4/93) and winning first place in their "Ultimate Guitarist Competition" Blues category. Fulltone pedals were born out of a love for Jimi Hendrix, fine vintage pedals, and Mikes frustration at the inconsistencies and the often fragile nature of old gear. Mike has his hands on every pedal built at Fulltone, and doesn't sell it if its not just right! Fat Sound has been a Fulltone dealer from the early days of the company and we strongly believe in both Mike and his pedals. His Deja'Vibe pedal was the first accurate Univibe copy and is currently used by Robin Trower as well as a host of others including myself. Fulltone's effects carry a Lifetime Warranty and are built for and by Musicians.

Catalyst Catalyst

A tremendously versatile pedal with some amazingly organic and natural tones. Now in stock and ready to ship.

From Fulltone:

Fuzzes can be a powerful thing in the right hands....BUT

....they are one trick ponies, can't do even a bad impersonation of an overdrive or clean boost

...they have major interaction issues with other effects like wah and modualtion (vibes, etc)

...they all have a sloppy, farty low-end.

....they have tons of bass/tons of highs but can't cut through a mix to save their lives...there are absolutely no Mids if you want them.

...only Fuzzface-type pedals Truly clean up when you turn down the guitar's volume knob, and even those get unuseable bright for anyone not using a brown old Marshall 4-input.

...they sound like ass through a bright Fender-style amp.

Then along came a little thing called Catalyst

A tiny little Distortion Generator that:

has NONE of the drawbacks listed above

is a GREAT FUZZ/Distortion (with toggle switch set to "Flame" position)

is a Phenomenal clean-boost, and overdrive as well (with toggle switch set to "Spark" setting)

has something I came up with called Max-end-all 2 Band EQ: an excellent hi-cut with a great Bass control having the proprietary ability to bring in incredible sounding midrange when the pot reaches around 3 o'clock on its rotation.

can be so raw yet can be so refined, and so musically useable that it defies description and musical boundries..don't be confused when you see this on Country rigs and Top 40 pedalboards..sometimes you get lucky and develop something truly unique.

Catalyst is that.

Incorporating all of the greasy, pulsing, cholesterol laden, chorus-like effect of the original Deja-Vibe, a pedal I have had permanently glued to my pedal board since 1995, the new MDV-2 offers Depth and Speed controls, Modern/Vintage switch as well as the obligatory Chorus/Vibrato switch in a treadle pedal, wah-like design.

This new design allows the user to fine tune the speed of the pulse from extremely slow to blindingly fast and every minute increment in between as easily as working a wah pedal.

A brilliant design and IMO a must have for any pedal board.

In beautiful vintage Cream color with maroon lettering housed in a sturdy 16 gauge steel housing that measuring ONLY 4" x 5.75"Fulltone was the first to put out an exact copy of the legendary Vintage'60's Univibe. Fulltone's has that dripping Phase-Chorused tone that made Jimi's "Machine Gun" so epic! Now it's tiny enough to fit on the most cluttered pedalboard, and because of the mini-DV's unique voltage doubling circuit you can use any standard 9 volt adapter or power supply ( FPS-1 power supply is included)and inside the pedal the power is ramped up to the original Univibe's 18 volts DC! Features also include a mini-toggle switch to choose between Vintage/Modern settings allowing for warm original '60's Univibe grind (Vintage setting) and louder, with more output (Modern setting). The Deja'Vibe has received a make-over!Robin Trower says of his Deja'Vibe "Simply Brilliant. I use it all the time. It's the best of it's kind!!"

Fat Sound's Take

Based on an extensive shootout of the 10 Boost style units that we stock:
Very versatile and by far the best version of this pedal to date.  Not quite as flat as the MOAB, due to a decreased bass response (with
controls flat), but mid bump is minimal compared to others. Tone controls not as active as RC Boost, but combination of Rangemaster-style
increments and bass/treble controls are a plus.

The FatBoost 3  replaces previous versions 1 and 2, marrying everything that people like about both version while improving on them in a few key areas:

  • Brings back the v1 11- position Gain control giving the ultimate in control over the FET's.
  • Adds one more stage of FET so that the pedal does not invert your signal
  • Cures v1's huge Bass increase and dull high-end issues, but allowing those sounds as well should you so desire.

The Fulltone Fat-Boost 3 is a Discrete, Class-A, FET (Field-Effect-Transistor) pedal offering up to 35dB of non-distorted Gain without changing your signature sound ...unless you so desire You can fatten/distort your tone, brighten or mellow up the sound, add or subtract Bass, and add even-order harmonics! The FB-3 has True-Bypass switching (using the finest switch made, the Fulltone 3PDT) and incorporates a super-bright LED without the loud popping sound thanks to our proprietary anti-pop circuitry.
FET’s can behave like Tubes in a properly designed circuit. They can “clip” (distort) in a pleasing way instead of being buzzy or spiky sounding (like a Transistor) and can also add a subtle Limiting to the signal which can even-out the volume making your Live and Recorded tones more pleasing to the ear....that‘s why you’ll see Recording Engineers using my Fat-Boost on everything from
Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Electric Bass, and even Snare drums.

The Fat-Boost 3 works great in front of non-Master-Volume Tube amps to goose them into submission, as well as through Master-Volume amps to drive them much harder than possible with just your guitar alone. It also works very well on Bass, Acoustic Guitars (with Pickups) and is the best thing you could put at the end of a pedal board effects chain to completely eliminate the tone loss caused by long guitar cable runs back to your amp. Doing so will allow the use of 50’ (or longer) cable lengths with no signal degradation whatsoever.

This final version of the Fat-Boost (Model FB-3) incorporates all of the things that people have loved about previous versions of the Fulltone Fat-Boosts without any of the shortcomings, and brings back the 11 step FET Bias “Drive” Knob that was missing from the FB-2. You‘ll notice that the “Drive” knob makes a slight scraping noise when you turn it...not to worry... that is totally normal, and is simply the sound of the Bias changing and settling on the FET MuAmp. The Fat-Boost 3 gives you the feeling that your amp is Cranked at living room volumes so your playing is more dynamic and notes hold on longer without being distorted. It makes up for all the tone loss that (even True-Bypass) pedals impart to your sound, especially if you‘re like me and have a lot of pedals on your pedalboard...
I rarely turn the FB-3 off....you may not either!

Full-Drive 2 Mosfet Edition

Full-Drive 2 Mosfet Edition Full-Drive 2 Mosfet Edition

Ships USPS Air Priority for a typical delivery time of 2 days

I first starting using a Full-Drive when they were housd in plain, metal, project boxes and labeled with P-Touch labels. There was no independent setting for the Boost function, but even then it was an easy choice to replace the dual, original TS-808 units I had been using for years.

The FD2 Mosfet is so far evolved from that original version that it's almost an apples to nails comparison. A vastly improved evolution of the original design that is capable of similar tones to the original early 90's unit, but also capable of more open, less compressed and totally natural tones that work wo well with your amplifier that it's simply like adding two channels rather than playing through a pedal.

Nothing else on the panet does what the FD2 Mosfet does. many new "hot" overdrive pedals come along every day, but the Full-Drive was the original, true bypass, dual mode, Tube Screamer derivative and nothing else I have tried does what this pedal does so well. The FD has evolved several times over the years with eacj consecutive version besting the one that came before it.

The Mosfet version is the best yet.......the perfect overdrive.

Housed in a beautiful powder coated Blue 16ga.steel enclosure, the first channel is the "Overdrive Mode" capable of Clean Boost or non-compressed overdrive or choose light to medium softer Overdrives all while retaining your guitar's original tone. The Tone knob is a very effective Presence control that can smooth out or add upper harmonics.. There's also a footswitchable second channel "Boost Mode" with its own separate Distortion control for medium to higher gains with a more singing violin-like sustain!

Fat Sound's Take

This is a truly dynamic overdrive pedal that is similarly responsive to my guitar's volume pot as nearly any high-end tube amp I have used.

Capable of incredible smooth, realistic, infinitely sustaining overdrive with a big, stringy low-end (lots of definition), but when you roll back the guitars volume a tad you get a reedy, honky tone that remains me of Warren Haynes' Govt. Mule tones.......and I'm talking about in to a nearly clean amplifier.

Touch responsive, huge sounding, sustain for days... and crystal clear when the guitar's volume knob is reduced for great live dynamics. Being that Robin uses Fenders as well as Marshalls, it had to work well with both types...it does. And Robin hits so hard that the front end of the pedal had to be tuned for those .012-.048 tuned-down strings...the RTO holds tight and smooth for Strat and Les Paul players alike.

Robin's quite happy with the way it turned out, and I think you will be too.

Roll back the guitar's volume a bit further and you get a snappy, percussive clean with a bit of musical compression.

A home run!

From Fulltone's Website

"AMPS....if you've ever owned a GREAT amp, like a Marshall 18 watt, a VOX AC15, a Marshall JTM45 and if you have a place where you can crank them up loud, then you know what I'm talking about...

Smack a power chord and you (not only) hear the fundamental notes...but you get (count 'em) 4, 5, even 6 additional overtones ringing into a feedback... notes that you can whistle if your ear is good enough! Think; Zep's "Ocean," "Custard Pie," Classic tones including James Gang, the Beatles, AC/DC, FREE., etc.

Back off the guitar's volume and there are a dozen great other sounds at your fingertips... Clean, spanky sounds, with all the highs and lows still intact. And a Tele still sounds like a Tele, a Les Paul like a Les Paul.

PEDALS (until now) just can't hold a candle to what a good amp can do if you are really picky. You not only lose all the touch sensitivity, but forget about those complex Harmonics. (For me) It's always been somewhat of a compromise using Overdrive pedals... until now. Ladies and Gentleman, I am proud to introduce the Fulltone OCD. I made this pedal for me, but I think you might like it too."

-Mike Fuller, Fulltone Custom Effects

Customer Comments

"Mike G/Stu,

Thank you for recommending the Fulltone OCD version 4 for the distortion sound I was looking for. Without rehashing all the stellar reviews of this pedal,The OCD is 'the perfect overdrive/distortion pedal' for my Dr Z Maz 18 Jr amp. Again, many thanks for your time in helping me pick the gear that works for me. (I never considered the OCD until Mike suggested it..good call)

Sincerely,"

Tube Tape Echo

MSRP: $1200.00 FAT PRICE: $1020.00 AVAILABILITY: Reservations Required
ADDITIONAL INFO: Available by Special Order only. Typical lead time is 3-4 weeks
Tube Tape Echo

If you ask that then you have never played a healthy Echoplex! No delay (rackmount or pedal, analog or digital) can replicate the natural, warm, and shimmery tones of an old Echoplex. Unless you've experienced it you don't know what you're missing.

Why a Tape Echo?

Yeah, but they're noisy and unreliable!
Yes, they certainly WERE....but the Fulltone TubeTapeEcho (TTE) is dead-quiet, and we've completely re-vamped both the electronics, the tape transport path, and even the tape cartridge itself to the point of near-overkill. My TTE produces less noise than most delay pedals.

How much delay time?
From a quick slapback to over 1 second. There is a top panel-mounted dual speed toggle switch to choose between: Hi-Speed and Lo-Speed operation. Hi-Speed gets you lots of Highs, less Bass, and a True Repeat without the Pitch variation of the old Echoplex. Lo-Speed is waaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrm, lots of Bass, less highs, and a slight "warble" that imparts a natural chorus effect made popular by people like Eric Johnson.

Why tubes?
Because they sound so good.....the enhancement to your basic tone is something you will not want to play without once you feel it, and you'll never again have to worry about signal loss due to long cables and too many pedals on your pedalboard.

What makes yours better?
1) The big AC motors of yesteryear were noisy and inefficient so I replaced it with a servo-controlled hi-torque DC motor. Not only is this more quiet, but it is more stable and is 1/4 the size, allowing for a smaller overall housing as well. click here for a view of the Motor-Assembly.

2) the TTE uses 2 x 12AX7 tubes (for the Record and Playback sections) with @200 volts DC and supply the filaments with 12 volts DC to reduce the hum further. The erase/ Bias section function uses one x 12AU7.

3) Handwired audio path, and world-famous Fulltone Made-in-USA Craftsmanship. No PCB-mounted Tubes or Jacks in this thing.

4) Stereo outs! Yep, how many times have you longed for a slight slap or long bounce between 2 amps in the studio or on stage? But this ain't just stereo....there are 3 stereo modes.

Mode #1: Guitar/Echo on the Left---->Guitar/Echo on the Right Mode #2: Guitar/Echo Left---> Echo on the right. Mode #3: Guitar on the left----> Echo on the right amp.

4) Better Tape Heads. The TTE has proprietary (custom-made) Erase, Record, and Playback heads that not only have better frequency response than the oldies, but are designed to last well into your retirement.

5) Fulltone ETC-1 Tape cartridge...if you can't find it, make it yerself! The ETC-1 not only is a direct replacement for all Tube and solid state Echoplexes ever made, but it's loaded it with a vastly superior tape loop made with polyester backing and a higher bias Tape formulation. The ETC-1 not only sounds MUCH better, but is not prone to the shedding of the replacement tape (made by another company) you've been using. This is a big deal when you've been paying almost $30 for a tape that only lasts a month, if you're lucky. Who's tape do you think is going to last longer when you run theirs for 10 minutes and a residue of brown dust appears all over the heads, rollers, and top of the chassis! That "build-up" is what creates distance between the tape and tape heads causing degradation of the echo-repeats and also causing the pinch-roller to slip against the Capstain, which leads to wildly out-of-tune echo-repeats. That brown dust accumulating is your tape (and your echo tone) disintegrating before your very eyes.

6) Nickel Plated Stainless Steel Parts because I want the stuff I make to outlast me and look great.

7) Echo Tone Control. The TTE has a very full-range/full-frequency Echo Sound.....but you can alter it to as vintage as you want a Tone control affecting only the repeats..

8) Smaller. Old Echoplex EP-2 models have that cool little side compartment for storing stuff. I put that storage place into a Heavy duty (wood-reinforced) Cordura Nylon Gig-Bag. (included) This, along with some downsizing, due in part to the use of a DC motor, allows for a very compact, stout unit that can sit on your amp, in your pedalboard, or off to the side without taking up too much precious real estate.
