Swart Amps

#1 Swart dealer in the world year after year
Fat Sound brought Swart amplifiers to market as the very first Swart dealer in 2004. Within 90 days Swart Amps had become one of our top two best selling brands and today has reached iconic status amongst studio, small club and hobbiest players. In those first 90 days over 70 Atomic Space Tone amps were sold.
Over the years it has become fairly common for "some guy" to show up at the shop totally unannounced and proclaim himself to be the next great thing in amp designers. I always take the time to listen to their wares, ask a few questions, but then typically, not finding anything new or exciting about their amps, I politely send them on their way with well wishes for great success in their endeavors.
Then one day....out of the blue.... a guy like Michael Swart walks in. Expecting another typical experience I am pleasantly surprised to meet a low key, humble guy who shares my enthusiasm for vintage inspired, but slightly evolved amp tones. The kind of tones that pay homage to the classic amps, but that are updated with overall tonal qualities and features that modern players look for. I find myself absolutely, unequivocally, blown away by the amps he has brought with him. I'm instantly transfixed....covered in goose bumps and wanting to play for hours.
One hour later, deal struck.....new line of amps for the shop and lots of excitement among the Fat Sound crew and local clients who were fortunate enough to be in the shop at the time of Michael's visit. Most days, owning a high-end amp shop is just the greatest thing in the world. Occasionally though I feel like I'm the luckiest guy alive! Thanks Michael!
It's a rare thing for the Fat Sound guys to get all worked up about a new amp these days. With so many new companies coming on line every day, so many buzz word, here today gone tomorrow lines popping up constantly that when we find an amp line...or in this case an amp line finds us....that truly offers something special, unique and inspiring we find ourselves with energy and enthusiasm for the entire industry renewed. Swart Amps are really that good!
Michael Swart, long time musician and recording engineer who owns and runs a 24 track studio located in Wilmington, NC has been using vintage tube amps of yore for live gigs and studio work.
Vintage Vox, Fender, Ampeg all cycled though. Michael always found something missing in a perfect small recording amp for studio and home use that exhibited great tone and distortion characteristics and remained flexible enough for varied recording use.
Swart then started building custom tube amps to get the exact tone he wanted. The original SPACE TONE came as a result of this need for a small studio or home amp that could provide BIG tone with clean to quality distortion when needed.

One of our top sellers of all times with over 70 sold the first 90 days these were available and hundreds sold since with an enormous fan base. "Unbelievable sounding 20 watter with a single 12" speaker, wonderfully rich vintage style tremolo, deep reverb and amazing tone. Regardless of what type or types of guitars you play, the touch sensitivity, dynamics, swell, musical compression....everything about this amp....will just blow you away. The cleans are so incredibly lush and swirly that you feel as if they might just carry you away. Little harmonic fairies seem to fill the room behind every note. The clean tones morph gradually into a singing, pushed clean which morphs into a very thick, chewy overdrive with just a touch of 50's Fullerton style bark, but don't let the tweed covering and 6V6 power tube set fool you; this is no Tweed clone......it's a magical amp that makes its own mark on amplifier history and a permanent part of my personal amplifier collection. I have had more fun playing this amp. My 60's Strat, Grosh Electrajet, R7 Historic Les Paul and MotorAve LeMans have rarely been played so good! Don't ya just love an amp that makes you play over your head and inspires you to break out of your rut? The Atomic Space Tone offers enough volume, headroom and dynamics for small club use, but even at 20 watts I find it fairly useable around the house. When used with Swart's Night Light I can play well in to the wee hours even after the kids are asleep." Stu Carter - owner, Fat Sound Guitars "We waited a long time to get this right but we finally found something that equaled the tone and perfect placement of the original Swart ST-6V6se "Space Tone," but with 20w of twin 6V6/6L6 power in high Class A biased AB. This beast has the goods with TUBE REVERB and TUBE TREMOLO, something virtually non-existent in today's marketplace. With an amazing 12" Custom British Vintage Series BV-25m that screams TONE with body, soul, and OUTPUT. This all new circuit is housed in a lacquered TWEED pine cab with oxblood clothed sides. This amp is in its own league." Michael Swart - owner/designer Swart Amplifier Company
A Best Seller since 2005 Most Recent Custom Comment"Stu, I'm loving the Swart AST! It sounded great out of the box and, on my regular Thursday night blues gig it killed on the jazz tunes we open with. Stunning jazz amp. At the end of the night the drummer complained that I sounded a little muddy on my solos on the blues stuff which knocked me back The next night we played a dance at an old wooden auditorium and I turned the volume up to 7, tone on 10 and the thing just rocked. I was using an old SIB Echodrive delay and a Klon Centaur and the results were flat out amazing. I could either step on the Klon for a solo with my guitar volume left alone (7 or 8) or leave the Klon alone and crank the guitar volume for a slightly different tone. Sang like a bird. Sunday we played a concert in a park where I was absolutely positively sure the Swart just wouldn't be enough. I was playing with a Hammond organ, amplified harmonica/sax, bass and drums. I spotted the sound guy at the local rock and roll club in the audience about half way back and, after we finished, I asked him if he could hear me. "Hear you?? You were the loudest [expletive deleted] up there! That little amp is amazing!" This is after being dwarfed by tenor sax played through a JBL powered PA for the last 3 years. Today I tried my Bob Gjika humbucker guitar with just the SIB delay and, if possible, the damn thing sounded even better! Incredibly lush chords and enormous authority on the solos." Andy B.

The video in the link bar above was "filmed" as a demo video for the LsL T-Bone guitar, but if you ride out the intro where Greg V discussed the guitar you get to hear some very tastey examples of what this amp is all about. |
