Quidley

What happens when you take one of the founding guitarists from the, East-Coast-Famous, cover band Sidewinder, send him off for a full career as a Rocket Scientist for NASA, watch him retire and decide to build amps that he wished were around during his heyday as a Rock Star? You get the Quidley 22/8.

Ed Quidley, original guitarist for Sidewinder, a band that began life in North Carolina in the late 70's and continued on with various members for two decades, was playing the best clubs on the East Coast back when a 100 watt Marshall Half Stack was the norm, but with age comes wisdom and the reality of the 21st Century is that if you show up to a gig sportin' a 70's style, 100 watt half stack.......most likely the club owner won't ask you back.

So, Ed set out to build an amp that works beautifully in today's lower dB working environment, but that would also be the perfect British-based solution for home recording hobbyists.

He nailed it!

The Hi Gain mode audio clips were specifically recorded to demonstrate how the 22 watt / 8 watt mode switch retains 100% of the amp's tone. By switching down to 8 watts you lose a tad more than 4 dB of volume (tested during recording with a dB meter) which translates in to a very around-the-house friendly experience. We recorded for the same clip levels so the volume of the clips should be nearly identical, but the difference in actual volume in the room was dramatic. See if you can tell a difference in tonal quality between the clip recorded in 22 watt mode and the clip recorded in 8 watt mode.

*Amp as pictured above in optional Crocodile tolex is an additional $80.00. Black, Brown Ostrich and Green tolex colors are standard

**Revised circuitry for 2009 makes this one of the best sounding, most versatile amps I have ever played. The Quidley 22 now runs an amazing gambit from swirly, lush, magical cleans, through Vox-like medium overdrive, JCM800-like gain structure and crunch and on to searing, smooth yet defined high-gain.

Here's an email dated 4-11-2009 from an owner of the newly designed Quidley who had previously owned the original design:

"I just wanted to let you know how fantastic this new version of the Quidley sounds. I put it up against the very popular amp that I bought from you late last year and I was able to get the stellar cleans that the other amp has as well as the pushed clean you mentioned and of course the fantastic old school driven tones from my favorite bands. I was so impressed how great it sounds with all my guitars (Strat, Tele, Les Paul, 335) just plugged in with no effects that I am selling my other amp. It's quite obvious to me that Ed has a great ear for tone and having owned the first combo that he made (which I loved) and now this new version with the most up to date changes, I really believe that I will be spending more time playing my guitars and less time chasing great tone and reading forum pages.
Active tone controls allow for a *huge* range of tonal tweaks."

This is a wonderful package. Just under 50 pounds, but monstrously huge sounding. All of the incredible features and tone of the Quidley heads in the perfect grab-and-go unit.

Footswitchable Low and High Gain modes with boost function.

Single Mojo BV30 12" speaker which compliments this amp beautifully.

Non-Invasive FX Loop

8/22 watt modes.......the 22 watt mode is the most fun, but the 8 watt mode is something you need to experience to believe. Combined with the amp's great master volume circuit, the 8 watt mode shuts the volume down on this amp without ruining the tone.....it really works. I may love the way the 22 watt mode moves my pants legs, but I could easily live in the 8 watt mode and never feel short changed. Check out the clips above.

Selectable Open/Closed feature for negative feedback tweaking. If you want a more modern, tighter, more focused sound select open mode. If you want a slightly softer, more vintage feel and sound select closed.

Very cool amp, nicely portable, volume that ranges from bedroom to club and a huge variety of clean to crunch to searing gain.
